🌅 Embracing the Four Stages of Life | Finding Dharma in Every Phase

July, 27, 2025

In this beautiful Sunday satsang from Upasana, Babaji reminds us that life is ever-changing — like the sun and fog trading places in the sky. All days are not the same, and neither are the phases of our lives.

Drawing from the ancient wisdom of the four ashramas (life stages) —

1️⃣ Brahmacharya – learning and living in a divine way

2️⃣ Grihastha – engaging in the world with responsibility and purpose

3️⃣ Vanaprastha – turning toward the forest, detaching, serving, and nourishing the soul

4️⃣ Sannyas – complete renunciation, resting in one’s own shelter

Babaji explains the dharma, or predominant duty, of each phase, and how confusion arises when we fail to honor the stage we are in. He shares how meditation, simplicity, and self-reflection prepare us for the inevitable transitions of life, including the final stage when we must learn to be content with ourselves alone.

Using the metaphor of clouds and sun, Babaji shows how challenges, aging, and life’s unpredictability are like passing weather — they cannot touch the inner light. “Go under your own shelter. There is nothing out there to depend on. All the days of life are never the same, but your inner sun is always shining.”

This satsang is a deep reflection for anyone at any age, guiding us to appreciate where we are, to practice daily, and to live true to the dharma of our phase of life.
