Creating a Better World

There is a saying in India, “Lower the world into the depths of your heart with the string of friendship.”

How beautiful it feels when we focus on cultivating friendship with all. When we walk in the world, holding the wellness of everyone in our hearts, and truly wishing the best for all.

Any happiness that comes from serving “me” and “mine” is fleeting, and like lightning in the sky, it dissipates quickly. Anything we do with the happiness of others in mind continuously produces light in our lives.

How do we get there? Sometimes it requires that we rise above our previously held ideas, desires, and the need to defend our rights. In doing this, we create a better world and everyone can enjoy peace and harmony.

I have seen that people are most confrontational with those who are closest to them, be it a family member, neighbor, co-worker, etc., and in the process, they make their own lives miserable. A little give and take would make both parties enjoy the blessings they already have.

Sometimes people will say to me, “Oh, that person does not like me.” If we are walking around with that kind of sentiment, how can we see the good in the other person? Whenever we have that kind of feeling inside, we are actually having a little trouble with ourselves. If you like yourself, if you feel good about yourself, no matter who you meet, you’ll see goodness. Even if someone does something that hurts your ego, you can smile it off.

We create the world together, depending on what kind of vibrations we put out, what kind of thoughts we are having. By just holding the sentiment in our heart, “May everyone be happy.”, we are making the world a little bit better. When we walk around in the world angry, upset, fearful or suspicious, the vibrations we are putting out in the world are impacting the environment around us and we create that reality for ourselves. We think we are protecting ourselves, but it has an adverse effect.

Always take into consideration your behavior and what effect your actions have on your surroundings. Maintaining a sentiment of goodness towards others, you receive goodness in return. We reap what we sow.

Good people, like rivers, bring nurturing and nourishment to everyone wherever they go. They engage in the world in a significant way, and their lives are a source of inspiration for many.

May I be like a river, from which flows a life of service.
